The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of mindfulness on anxiety in college students. The Mindfulness, Self-esteem, and Trait Anxiety Scales were utilized for 328 college student participants. Results showed that anxiety negatively correlated with mindfulness and self-esteem, and that mindfulness positively correlated with self-esteem. Also, mindfulness and self-esteem had a significant influence on the anxiety of college students. Examining the effects of mindfulness on anxiety by mediating self-esteem revealed that self-esteem had a significant mediating effect on anxiety. The results of this study suggest that self-esteem can play a major role in the effect of mindfulness on anxiety among college students. Implications and limitations are discussed.
